There are a few things that I keep bringing up, and need to stop bringing up. They’re irrelevant. So I’ll say it once, really quickly, and then knock it aside and force myself not to give it any more weight going forward: this rock opera is kind of old. So what? Exactly. So what. The interpretation will be fresh, and it’s gonna be a neat film. I’ve collected a steady dribble of ideas in various notebooks and text files over the past (number omitted) years, but it’s time to start opening that spigot a little more.
I don’t know entirely what I’m doing, but I will figure it out as I go along. I wrote my “So You Want To Make An Album” series for people who are just figuring out their way through the process of recording an album. I hope, having put those insights into words, that I too will be able to benefit from them in this more foreign territory. I suspect that a lot of the general philosophies that I’ve learned in music can be trans-applicable to other forms of expression, but I’ll be sure to let you know when that’s not the case — maybe documenting this experience will be helpful to those of you wishing to do similar projects. (I wish I’d recorded my conversation with Mike yesterday, but it really was 97% talking about other films.)
